Juana Melendez, 57, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Sunday morning, July 28, 2019 at her home.

Born May 29, 1962 in Tenancingo, El Salvador, she was the daughter of Rafael and Catalina (Escobar) Vanegas. She was raised and received her education in El Salvador. In 1985, she moved to Los Angeles, California where she worked as a housekeeper.

Juana was united in marriage to Cristobal Melendez in Los Angeles in 1994. The couple made their home in Los Angeles before moving to Nebraska and later Oklahoma and finally settled in Winfield, Kansas. She enjoyed watching tv, listening to music, and going to church. Mr. Melendez preceded her in death in 2013.

Her family includes her children, Josue Melendez of El Salvador; Susana Vanegas of El Salvador; Christopher Melendez of Winfield; Natalie Melendez of Winfield; her siblings, Margoth Vanegas, Luz Vanegas, Antonio Vanegas, Lito Vanegas; and her grandchildren, Beatrice Vanegas and Pablito.

Juana was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

The family will hold private memorial services at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
