Ben met his love on a blind date driving a fancy Ford convertible on April 4, 1949. On April 9, 1950, Dorothea Marie Palmer of Denver Colorado and Ben Ferguson were married. Ben and Dorothea retired to Augusta in 1985.

He is a member of the Masonic Lodge #233 of Burden, Kansas for 65 years.
