John Edward Sanders, 94, of Winfield, Kansas, went home to his Savior on December 6, 2023.
Born March 16, 1929, in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of Clyde Herbert and Mary Armelia (Stough) Sanders. He was raised and received his education in Wichita. Following school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean War.
John spent most of his life as a sheet metal worker. He lived in various places including Amarillo, Wichita, Goddard, and Wellington. After retiring from the sheet metal industry, he worked as a school bus driver. He enjoyed tinkering with electronics. He would take an old t.v., radio, or stereo, and use their parts to make a new creation. When he was younger, he enjoyed building and racing cars on dirt tracks. He also built and raced slot cars, collected rocks, enjoyed toy trains and hot wheels.
His family includes his son Dirk Sanders of Rose Hill; his sister Rosie Brandon of Wellington; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by eight siblings.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Miles Funeral Service. Interment and military committal honors will be held at 1:00 that afternoon at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.
