JOHN E. PINGRY, JR., 68, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 7, 2010 at Via Christi/St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
Born on August 21, 1941 in Arkansas City, Kansas, he was the son of John E. and Nevalene (Nason) Pingry, Sr. He was raised and received his education in Arkansas City and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1959. John later graduated from Arkansas City Junior College. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad while attending college.
He was united in marriage on May 29, 1965 to Judy Taylor in Arkansas City, Kansas. The couple made their home in Burden, Kansas. John served in the National Guard from 1963 to 1967 when he was honorably discharged. He began employment in 1965 with Southern Kansas Telephone where he was plant supervisor. John retired in 1998 following 33 years of service. He then became self employed as a consultant engineer.
John was a member of the First Baptist Church in Arkansas City. He enjoyed building things, motorcycles and hunting.

His daughter: Cindi Badger and husband Joel of Atlanta, GA;
His mother: Nevalene Pingry of Arkansas City, KS;
His sisters: Darlene Atkins and husband Merrill of Derby, KS; and Ann Long and husband Gary of Arkansas City, KS;
His grandchildren: Breanna Pingry, Summer Pingry, MaKenzie Badger, J.T. Pingry, Blake Badger and Brady Badger.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Pingry.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, north of Arkansas City. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 10, 2010.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials in John's name be made to the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
