John Charles McMillan, 74, of Sedan, Kansas, passed from this life after a short illness on August 30, 2021, at the Sedan City Hospital.
John was born November 21, 1946, in Sedan. He attended school, both elementary and high school, at Peru and graduated with the class of 1964.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan. He loved the Lord and rarely missed a church service. He held positions as Deacon and Trustee over the years and his church family was very important to him.
He was employed by Caney Valley Electric in Cedar Vale and Sedan for 35 years. He farmed and was co-owner of M&M Electric in Sedan. He also enjoyed raising horses and cattle.
John was united in marriage to Linda Miller in 1965. To this union, three children were born. Linda preceded him in death. John and Kathy Lewis were married in 2014.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Almeda McMillan, wife Linda, and brothers-in-law, Buddy Miller and Tommy Baker.
He is survived by his wife Kathy of the home; son Baron (Lisa) McMillan of Broken Arrow, OK; daughters, Tisha (Brad) Brown; and Jodi (Patrick) Steward, all of Sedan; Jason (Terri) Lewis of Strong City; grandchildren, Lindsey and Kaley McMillan of Claremore, OK; Denton (Kaitlin) Brown of Dewey, OK; Megan and Jordan Brown of Bartlesville, OK; Morgan (Kyle) Phalen of Chicago, IL; Leah Steward of Manhattan; Allison Steward of Sedan; Tanner (Jessica) Lewis of Cottonwood Falls; Jaron Lewis of Mackay, ID; Bailey Lewis of Stillwater, OK; great grandson Hudson Brown; sister Kathleen Baker of Snyder, TX; brother Daniel (Cheryl) McMillan of Peru; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and Bonita Miller of Sedan; brothers-in-law, Bruce Blodgett of Wichita; Bill Kanehl of Richland, WA; a very special extended family member, whom John and Kathy considered their granddaughter, Miss Peyton Kay Chrisman of Sedan; along with nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at the First Baptist church in Sedan on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 1:00 P.M. under the direction of Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall following the service, where refreshments will be served.
A memorial has been established in John's name for the First Baptist Church in Sedan. Contributions may be made a through the funeral home.
