John Christian Kielhorn, 85, of Cambridge, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, December 23, 2019 at his home.
Born February 1, 1934 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Earl and Jeannette (Stitt) Kielhorn. He was raised and received his education in Cambridge. John served in the United States Navy during the Korean War as an electrician and fireman. He served four years before receiving an honorable discharge.
John married Wilma Rains in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Burden. John worked at O BAR Ranch as a young man, before working in the oil fields in Kansas, Wyoming, and Oklahoma, and later Russell Construction. He eventually returned to O BAR Ranch, where he remained until retiring. John was the third generation to live on the Kielhorn ranch in Cambridge.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cambridge, as well as the VFW Post #3544 and the American Legion Post #10. John enjoyed working on trucks, equipment, and tractors. He also enjoyed going to farm and ranch shows, and steam engine shows.
His family includes his sons Cecil Kielhorn and wife, Darlene of Topeka; Ed Patton and wife, Cherry of Sedgwick; his daughter-in-law Cricket Kielhorn of Burden; his grandchildren Susan Belden, John Kielhorn, Kristen Kielhorn, William Matthew, Cameron and Evan Mathews, and Mitch and Ryan Davis; and his great grandchildren, Josie and Julie Belden, Piper and Lee Kielhorn, Emily Chilson, and Hadlee and Harper Davis.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Kielhorn.
Memorial services will be held January 2, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private burial will take place at the Cambridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in John's name for St. Jude Children's Hospital. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
