Obituary

JOHN J. HAHN, 61, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 23, 2008 at his home.

Born on July 23, 1947 in Winfield, he was the son of Francis Keith and Mary Ruth (Dobbs) Hahn. He was raised in Winfield, attending Holy Name Catholic School and graduating from Winfield High School. He attended Michigan University in Ann Arbor, Michigan for a short time and later trained for the Winfield Fire Department.

On October 8, 1982, John was united in marriage to Connie (Slater) Moschetti in Great Bend, Kansas. John played drums with Mike Finigan in Wichita, was a fire fighter for the Winfield Fire Department, and worked for the police department in Wichita and was later transferred to Great Bend. What started out as a hobby training retrievers, turned into his life's work when he owned Cheyenne Retriever Training Kennels in Hoisington, Kansas. He owned and operated the kennel for 25 years. The couple moved to the Texoma area, where John guided and taught fly fisherman and the art of fly fishing. He was an artist when it came to tying flies.

John had a stroke in 2004, and the couple moved back to Winfield, where he considered home, in 2005. In early 2006, he was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer. John was an avid member of Ducks Unlimited, the Federation of Fly Fishers, and the Nature Conservancy. He was contagious; no matter what the circumstances of meeting Mr. Hahn, you never forgot him. He played a great Santa Claus and loved meeting new people. He was an avid hunter, but fly fishing was his passion.

His family includes:
His wife: Connie of the home;
His children: Dan Hahn of Missouri; and Mick Moschetti and wife, Kelly of Commerce City, CO;
His brother: James Hahn and wife, Jeana of Hutchinson, KS;
His sister: Margaret McGuire and husband, Ralph of Fall River, KS;
His grandchildren: Allison, Emily, and Aaron;
His Mother-in-law: Norma Moody of Farmington, NM;
His sisters-in-law: Shirley Divido and husband, Joe of Monument, CO; and Loydeen Long and husband, Bill of Farmington, NM; and
Many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Colleen.
