JOHN H.F. ADAMS, 80, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, June 3, 2010 at Winfield Resthaven.
Born on February 13, 1930 in Lebannon, Missouri, he was the son of Horace and Florence (Dunlap) Adams. He was raised in Laclede County, Missouri and later Springfield, Missouri where he graduated from St. Agus High School in 1948.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Adams proudly served his country in the United States Army as First Sergeant from August of 1948 until August 1969.
He was united in marriage in April of 1952 to Rosetta Antonini in Trieste, Italy. Mrs. Adams preceded him in death on October 13, 1973. Following his honorable discharge, John was employed as Director of Admissions at Marymount College in Salina, Kansas. He later worked for Investors Diversified Services and Hines and Roth Clothing, both in Salina. He returned to Investors Diversified Services and transferred to Independence, Kansas and opened an office there. John retired from the Winfield Correctional Facility as a corrections officer.
John was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed all kinds of Bible School studies and programs. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Salina. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, walking, softball and was an avid golfer.

His sisters: Frances Ferguson of Springfield, MO; and Mary Agnes Angulo of Wichita, KS;
His 6 grandchildren: Amanda Elkins, Rebecca and Matthew McCreary, Orianna Adams, John H.F. Adams III., and Christy Hawley;
His 8 great-grandchildren; and
His companion: Gladys "Buffy" Buffum.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Adams.
Memorial services will be held 9:00 A.M., June 9, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church. Military committal honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in John's name for Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
