Obituary

John A. Crosser, 79, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, September 16, 2008 at his home.

Born on July 19, 1929 in Portageville, Missouri, he was the son of Robert and Mary Edna (Hurley) Crosser. He was raised and received his education in Portageville. As a youth, he worked in the cotton fields picking cotton. In 1951 he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War.

On July 13, 1953 he was united in marriage to Vidae Allen in Rockford, Illinois where the couple made their home. John was employed at Sundstrand Aviation and worked there until he moved back to Missouri to be close to his family. While in Missouri he worked as a handyman remodeling homes. When he retired, John moved to Winfield, Kansas to be near his children.

John was raised in the Pentecostal faith. He was also a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, crafts, going to auctions, and spending time with his family. He always loved a good joke and a cup of Folgers.

His family includes:
His first love and life-long companion: Vidae Crosser of Winfield;
His son: John A. Crosser, Jr. and wife, Veronica of Winfield;
His daughter: Carolyn Roberts and husband, Mark, of Tulsa, OK;
His sisters: Velva Harris and Mary Ethyl Toll, both of Marianna, AR; and
His 8 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers Robert "Bob", Billy Joe, and William "Bud" Crosser, and four sisters: Garnell Harkness, Savannah "Tot" Wyatt, Pauline King, and Louise McBride.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 19, 2008 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Thursday, September 18, 2008. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 that evening.

A memorial has been established in John's name for Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
