JOHN AMEZCUA, 72, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, November 16, 2013 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita.
Born June 25, 1941 in Udall, Kansas, he was the son of Jose Garcia and Ramona (Gutierrez) Amezcua. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School.
John attended Southwestern College for a while before enlisting in the service. He joined the United States Air Force on January 17, 1961. He re-enlisted at the end of his first term and served another four years during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged after over eight years of service on April 16, 1969.
He was united in marriage to Maria Corona on November 22, 1972. The couple made their home in Winfield.
John worked at Cessna Aircraft and later for General Electric. He was an Engine Inspector for the government and retired from GE. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. John enjoyed working and taking care of his family. He also enjoyed baking and riding his moped, playing cards and looking for pecans with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

His sisters: Pearl Gomez and husband, Ruben of Leon; Ramona Torrez of Arkansas City; Josephine Carrillo of Wichita; and Maggie Trillo of Arkansas City;
His grandchildren: Maria Amezcua-Marsh, Terry Sandifar, II, Derek McAlister, Chelsie Mead, Laiken Adams, Ashley Mead, Alyssa Sumrall, Marissa Amezcua, Jalissa Amezcua, Tristiana Gaytan, Alexis Gaytan, and Joseph Amezcua; and
His great grandchildren: Quentin Brown, Kamree Marsh, Cameron Marsh, Jr., Hollie and Nick McAlister, Natalie McBride, Gabriel McBride and Julian Beltran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Garcia and Ramona Amezcua, his first wife, Caroline Amezcua, and his brothers, Jesus Amezcua, Marcelleo Amezcua, Tony Amezcua and Jose Francisco Gutierrez.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment and Military Committal Honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time. The Rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at 7 P.M. at Holy Name. A viewing will be held prior to the Rosary beginning at 5 P.M.
A Memorial has been established in John's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
