Obituary

JoAnn Pearson Smith passed away Wednesday, March 3rd, at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield, Kansas.

JoAnn was born March 25, 1932 at her family home in Salina, KS. She was the daughter of Olaf and Nelia (Beck) Pearson. She graduated from Salina High in 1950, and on October 15, 1950 she was married to George Allen Smith in Salina, Kansas.

While busy raising her family, sewing many dresses, knitting multiple scarves and slippers, rocking her grandbabies, and making her famous chocolate chip cookies, JoAnn also enjoyed working at St. Luke's Hospital in Wellington, William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield, Oxford Public Schools, and Winfield Public Schools. She was a member of The First Baptist Church in Oxford, leader of girl scout troops, and often volunteered at school functions. JoAnn especially enjoyed growing gorgeous flowers, reading, knitting, and traveling with her husband. She loved spending time with her family and her friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, JoAnn was preceded in death by her son, Grant Pason Smith, her sister Donna Reese, and daughter-in-law Carolyn Enns.

JoAnn's family includes her children, George R. Smith and his wife Suzanne, of Burlington, Michael Smith and his wife Elgena, of Clay Center, Janet Spoon and her husband Gene, of Winfield, Jody Enns of Winfield, Tracy Smith and his wife Anita, of Oxford, Scott Smith of Sheridan Wyoming, Julie Graham and her husband Eric, of Winfield, her sister Margaret Budke and her husband John, of Salina; grandchildren Amy Smith, Jason Smith, Angela Powers, Bart Smith, Noni Buster, Christy Rozo, Gina Heller, Jacob Enns, Dustin Smith, Felicia Morris, Kelsey Clemons, Cole Graham, Grant Smith, Matt Smith, Tessie Diver, KC Smith, John Graham, Mitchell Graham, 35 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Private funeral services for the immediate family will be held at Miles Funeral Service. A livestream link will be available for extended family and friends to view the service.

A memorial has been established in JoAnn's name for the Winfield Food Pantry. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
