Joan Johnson, 95, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday afternoon, March 22, 2019 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Via Christi St. Francis.
Born October 8, 1923 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Robert C. and Edith (Garwood) Johnson. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1941. After high school, she attended Kansas State University in Manhattan. Following school, she returned to Winfield to be near family.
Joan owned and operated Rancho Chiquito, raising American Kennel Club registered boxers. She also taught canine obedience classes in Winfield. She was a member of the Daughters of the Revolution and enjoyed knitting, ceramics, and all types of crafts.
Her family includes her nephews and nieces, Ann Kopel, Sarah Langenwalter, Kay Highfill, Mike Johnson, Bill Johnson, Bruce Johnson, Dan Johnson, and Paul Jarvis.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert F. Johnson and Aaron B. Johnson, her sisters, Shirley Jarvis and Artis Malone, and two nephews, Ed Jarvis and Ray Johnson.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Tuesday from 3 to 8 P.M.
A memorial has been established in Joan's name for the Winfield Fire Department. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
