Jo Rita Davis, 90, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, April 12, 2022, at the Olathe Hospice House.
Born August 3, 1931, in Okemah, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Clarence and Rosetta (Keeling) Ritchie. Jo Rita's family moved to Winfield when she was a teenager. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1948. She later attended Southwestern College, where she played volleyball.
She was united in marriage to William D. "Bill" Davis on August 9, 1950, at the First Christian Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Jo Rita worked at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for several years. She was a Licensed Mental Health Technician III and filled many roles at the hospital. Following the state hospital, she became a para for the Winfield School District. The couple moved to Olathe in November of 2015 to be near family. Mr. Davis preceded her in death on December 13, 2015.
Jo Rita was a member of First Christian Church where she was active in several groups until the church dissolved. She was an avid reader and loved a cup of coffee and a good book. She enjoyed cooking, but above all, devoted her life to caring for her family.
Her family includes her daughters, Kathy Hanshew and husband, Dave of Pratt; Kris Huntoon and husband, Pat of Olathe; her brothers, Robert Leon Ritchie of Wichita; David Ritchie of Surprise, AZ; her grandchildren, Corey Davis and wife, Steffi; Tracy Bailey and husband, Kyle; Trent Hanshew and wife, Sarah; Mandy Browning and husband, Jason; Mallory Ankrom and husband, Erik; and her great-grandchildren, Garrett and Brittley Bailey; Lillian and David Hanshew; Daley, Grayson, and Bennett Browning; and Wil and Emmeline Ankrom.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jo Rita was preceded in death by a daughter Montie Kay Davis, a granddaughter Misha Davis, a sister Rena Bennett, and a brother Randall Ritchie.
A private family graveside service will be held at Highland Cemetery. A viewing is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Monday afternoon from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M.
A memorial has been established in Jo Rita's name for the Olathe Health Hospice House. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
