Jimmy Lee Spencer, 63, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, October 3, 2023, at his home.
Born December 17, 1959, in Winfield, he was the son of Meryl Dean and Mary "Martha" (King) Spencer. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1978.
Jimmy learned his craft as a welder while working at Nelson Machine and Welding. He then began his career welding at Boeing Aircraft Company, where he remained for over 38 years.
Jimmy was united in marriage to Sharon Drummond on January 21, 2011, in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Jimmy loved animals and the outdoors. When he was younger, he enjoyed drag racing and working on cars. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson.
His family includes his wife Sharon Spencer of Winfield; his children, Hannah Ballard and husband, Mark Sheaves of Lawrence; Joseph Ballard and wife, Laura of Leawood; his siblings, Gary Spencer and wife, Sharon of Udall; Elaine Nelson of Winfield; Ronnie Spencer and wife, Becky of Winfield; Shiela Terrell of Winfield; his grandchildren, June and Dean Ballard; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Vernon Terrell and Larry Nelson, and a nephew Gregory Spencer.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 6, 2023, at 10:30 A.M., at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening. Following the committal service, please join the family for a reception at Shindigs (500 Main St., Winfield) from 12:30 to 2:30 PM. The reception will be held on the second level.
A memorial has been established in Jimmy's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
