Obituary

Jimmy Todd Smith, 59, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 23, 2019 at his sister's home in Winfield.

Born August 22, 1959 in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of William Riley "Bill" and Thelma F. (Fultz) Smith. His family lived in Braman, Oklahoma for a short time when he was young. He was raised on the family farm east of Winfield and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1977.

After school, Jimmy worked on the family farm as well as helping run Smith's Service Station east of Winfield. In the 1990's, Jimmy and his mother opened Smith's Country Corner which they owned and operated for many years. In 2013, he opened a retail store in Arkansas City.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Winfield. He enjoyed going to auctions, fishing, visiting with people, and making friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Jim never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Jim will be remembered as a great brother, uncle and friend. His family includes his sister Frances Warner of Winfield; brother Alan Smith of Winfield; nieces, Kristi Briggs and Sarah Swopes; great nieces, Mac Kenzie Tatum, Madison Swopes; and great nephew William Tatum.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a brother Charles Smith.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Monday, January 28, 2019 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Jimmy's name for the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
