Jimmie "Jd"
Williamson
May 13, 1941 – August 24, 2019
Jimmie "JD" Williamson, 78, of Douglass, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, August 24, 2019 at his home.
Born May 13, 1941 in Coffeyville, Kansas, he was the son of Arlie and Thelma Grace (Bair) Williamson. He was raised in Canton and Rock, Kansas and received his education in Green Valley, Rock, and Winfield. JD was a member of FFA while in high school and graduated from Winfield High School in 1959. As a young man, JD worked in the hay fields and for several area farmers. He spent the summers staying with his grandfather, LaVerne Bair.
JD was united in marriage to Thelma Lanier on May 9, 1959 at the Atlanta Christian Church. The couple made their first home in Rock before moving to Douglass. JD worked for Stelbar Oil Corporation, Stelbar Ranch, and Beech Aircraft. He worked as a herdsman for Stelbar Ranch, birthing baby calves and taking care of cattle. This seemed to be his favorite job. His two sons were raised on the ranch. While his sons were in 4H, he was an active leader, and later remained a 4H helper with local families. He then began his career at Sherwood Construction, where he drove trucks, moving heavy equipment until his retirement in March of 2004.
Before his health deteriorated in 2010, he was an active fisherman and hunter and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In his younger years, JD enjoyed raccoon hunting with friends and his favorite dogs, Shoal Creek Dottie, Old Joe, Cotton, and Bud. His favorite lakes were Winfield Lake, Council Grove Lake, and the Marion Reservoir. The family held numerous reunions, which included boating and fishing, at both the Marion Reservoir and Council Grove Lake. Jimmie suffered with COPD for the last few years. He did not want friends or family to see him in this deteriorated condition.
His family includes his wife Thelma of Douglass; his sons, Ronald Williamson and wife, Sandy of Douglass; Danny Williamson of Tampa; his sister Arlene Lanier and husband, Lester of Douglass; his sisters-in-law, Gertrude Lanier of Edgerton, MO; Doris Folsom of Harrisonville, MO; his grandchildren, Heath Williamson and wife, Bethany; Hayley Patten and husband, Austin; Heidi Williams and husband, Randahl; Hannah Richardson and husband, Daniel; Hunter Williamson and wife, Angel; his great grandchildren, Kendal and Clayton Williamson, William and Emma Patten, Abby and Logan Richardson, Jane Williamson; special friend David Mueller; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, JD was preceded in death by a son Michael Williamson, a brother Arlie Williamson, Jr, and two brothers-in-law, Orville Lanier and Robert Folsom.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Monday, September 2, 2019 from 5 to 7. The family will greet friends during this time.
