JIMMIE 'NICK' L. NICHOLS, 73, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, May 5, 2014 at his residence.

Born on November 12, 1940 in Owensboro, Kentucky, he was the son of James and Mildred (Waltrip) Nichols. He was raised and received his education in Owensboro, Kentucky attending local schools.

Following high school, Jim joined the United States Air Force and served in crash and rescue. He was stationed in Korea and the states. Jim later worked in the coal mines, law enforcement and emergency services while in Kentucky. In his later years, he drove a transport truck for Total Petroleum. In 2008 he retired from Werner Enterprises where he delivered freight over the road.

He was united in marriage in 1989 to Linda Marr. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family. Jim also loved fishing, puzzle books, reading, and the special time spent with his grandkids. He was recently baptized by the Hospice chaplain, Norman Reeves.

His step-children: Phillip Marr Jr., of Arkansas City, KS; Larry Marr of Stockton, MO; Kymberly Marr of Maui, HI; Rocky Marr of Arkansas City, KS;
His sister: Jan Houtchen of Owensboro, KY;
21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren with 3 on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bobby.

Cremation has taken place.

The family will conduct a memorial service on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10:30 A.M., at the Maple City Community Church in Maple City.

A memorial has been established in Jimmie's name for Harden Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
