Jewell "Kay" M. Howell, 78, of Wichita, previously of Winfield, passed away Thursday evening, August 15, 2019 at her son's home.

Born July 21, 1941 in Coffeyville, Kansas, she was the daughter of Jess and Frances (Aikins) Peyton. She was raised and received her education in Coffeyville.

Kay was united in marriage to Otis Gene Howell on July 22, 1978. In 1985, Otis and Kay moved to Winfield where they owned and operated Howell's Auto Service. Kay also owned and operated Kay's Furniture Store. She became a full-time caregiver for her daughter, Roberta "Bobbie" Knight who became a quadriplegic as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Otis preceded her in death on June 9, 2008.

Kay enjoyed playing bingo. She loved muscle cars and enjoyed racing, buying, and selling them.

Her family includes her sons Steve Rupert, Sr. and wife, Vicki of Wichita; Chuck Rupert and wife Trudy of Haysville; her brother, Robert Peyton of Miami, OK; her ten grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Kay was preceded in death by her daughters, Glenna Rupert and Roberta "Bobbie" Lee Knight and a great grandson Lucas Cole.

Graveside funeral services will be held at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Kay's name for an education fund for her granddaughter, Kirstie Stiner. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
