JEWELL L. JOHNSON, 89, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, January 10, 2009 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Born on May 12, 1919 in Purcell, OK she was the daughter of Benjamin and Leola (Grace) Givens. She was raised and received her education in both Oklahoma and Kansas, graduating from Arkansas City High School. She later attended Cowley County Community College.
She was united in marriage on February 22, 1939 to Orvan G. Johnson in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Winfield where they raised their sons and remained most of their lives. Mr. Johnson preceded her in death on March 11, 2003.
Jewell was a member of Apostolic Faith Church until its closing and has continued serving God with the First Church of the Nazarene in Winfield. Her hobbies included sewing, reading, harvesting her pecans, and especially her church work.

Her nephew: Fulton Mitchell of Moreno Valley, CA;
Her cousin: Julia Garrett of Fallen, MO;
Her 3 grandchildren; and
A host of great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a special friend/ cousin-in-law, Tiako Givens.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Ben G. Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday January 15, 2009 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., the family will greet visitors from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. .
A memorial has been established in Jewell's name for Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
