JEWEL (COX) WALLACE, 101, of Winfield, Kansas, transitioned on Saturday evening, March 6, 2010 at Resthaven care facility in Winfield.
Born on December 12, 1908 in Caldwell, Texas, she was first of eleven siblings born to of Ben and Lula L. (Lawrence) Wallace. Jewel, along with her family, moved to Langston, Oklahoma and resided there before moving to Winfield in 1936. She spent her working years as a domestic worker.
She was united in marriage to Nolan Cox for many years. The couple later divorced. Jewel returned to the Winfield area in the late 40's and had spent most of her life in Winfield. Jewel not having children of her own, loved spending time with her family. Her many nieces and nephews loved and respected "Aunt Jewel."
She was a faithful and active member of the Second Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served in other capacities as well. Jewel enjoyed working in her yard and possessed a great love of growing and enjoying flowers and vegetables.

Her sisters: Vera King of Winfield, KS; and Madge Austin of East St. Louis, ILL;
Her brothers: Eugene Wallace of Kansas City, MO; and Floyd "Cecil" Wallace of Leavenworth, KS; and
A host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Adron and Emmitt Wallace, Marjorie Cochran, Eulalia Greer, Leland "Jack" Wallace and infant E.V.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, March 12, 2010.
A memorial has been established in Jewel's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
