Obituary

Jessie L. "Grandma Pete" Bonesteel, 87, of Winfield, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 15, 2010 at Riverview Manor in Oxford.

Born January 29, 1923 in Clinton, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Lee and Ethel Florence (Love) Keeling. She was raised and received her education in Cowley County attending elementary school in Udall and high school in Winfield. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1942.

In 1939 she married Forrest Burley in Winfield. The couple traveled all over the country with Forrest's work. To this union two sons were born. The couple later divorced. She later married Bob Miller in 1949. To this union one son was born. The couple later divorced. In 1949 Jesse went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator in Winfield. She remained with the phone company for over 35 years until her retirement in 1978.

Jessie was united in marriage to Elmo F. Bonesteel on June 27, 1969. The couple made their home in Winfield. Mr. Bonesteel preceded her in death on August 23, 2002.

She was a charter member of the Evangelical Free Church in Winfield. She was also a member of Communication Workers of America and Southwestern Bell Retirement Pioneers.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, and working with porcelain dolls.

Her family includes:
Her sons: Joe Burley of Wichita; Victor Burley and wife, Nancy of Oxford; Bob Lee Miller and wife, Barbara of Springdale, AR;
Her stepson: Michael Bonesteel and wife, Doreen of Austin, TX;
Her sister: Brenda Duncan of Winfield;
Her 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 2 foster grandchildren; and
Many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands and parents Jessie was preceded in death by two grandsons, David Burley and Jeff Miller, and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 2 to 4 that afternoon.

A Memorial has been established in Jessie's name for the Evangelical Free Church in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
