Jesse Otis Young, 85, of Udall, Kansas, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at his home.
Born October 22, 1931 in Hominy, Oklahoma, he was the son of Otis and Lola Belle (Hester) Young. He was raised and received his education in Hominy, Oklahoma. After school, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country as a cook on the USS Bradford DD545 from December 12, 1951 to July 26, 1953. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he moved to Cedar Vale, Kansas, where he worked on the Hayden Ranch.
Jesse married JoAnn Haynes in Belle Plaine in 1956. The couple made their home in Riverdale, Kansas and Jesse worked at the Mulvane Coop. To this union, five children were born. Jesse worked at several area elevators, serving as manager at the Purina Elevator in Wellington. The couple later divorced.
In 1981, he was united in marriage to Sally Hurd. The couple made their home in Udall and Beaver Lake, Arkansas. Jesse went to work at Wheat State Telephone Company, Inc. where he remained until retiring in 1992. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. Sally preceded him in death on April 20, 2012.

His step-son: Randy Hoffman of Udall; and
His 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jesse was preceded in death by a son, Joey Young, a step son, Darren Hoffman, and two sisters and three brothers.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Jesse's name for the March of Dimes. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
