Jesse Willard Spencer, 93,
of Douglass, Kansas, went home to be with his Lord, Monday morning, October 16, 2017.
Born August 12, 1924 in Choctaw, Oklahoma, he was the son of Jesse Leorn and Alice Viola (Bourlon) Spencer. He attended Union Hill School, southeast of Chickasha, Oklahoma where he graduated from 8
th
grade. He attended Chickasha High School until he had to leave school to help his mother at home after his father died. At this time, the family moved to Kansas.
On August 24, 1946, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Joyce Allen at Douglass, Kansas. The couple made their first home on a farm southwest of Douglass and later moved to Ninnekah, Oklahoma. They returned to Douglass where Jesse was employed as a farm laborer for Taylor Farms for over 40 years. He spent his life in agriculture and cattle management.
He held membership in the International Order of Odd Fellows. Jesse's interests included visiting with his many friends and relatives, telling stories about growing up, and continued interest in agriculture.
He is survived by:
His daughter: Janet Shearer of Wichita;
His son: Jerry Don Spencer and wife, Janice of Douglass;
His two sisters: Annabell Ross of Winfield; Carolyn Sue Teel of Rush Springs, OK;
His two grandchildren: Ben Hays and John L. Shearer;
His two great grandchildren: Kaycie Schilling and John R. Shearer;
His great-great grandson: Cogan Philliip Schilling; and
A host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Joyce and 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church in Douglass. Interment will follow at Douglass Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Jesse's name for First Baptist Church in Douglass. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
