Obituary

JESSE HOYT LOUGHREY, 29, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009.

Born on November 1, 1979 in Winfield, he was the son of Connie Hoyt and Andy Loughrey. He spent his childhood on ranches in Cowley and Wabaunsee Counties. His teen years were spent with his mom in Tennessee, West Virginia and Colorado, as his mother was a member of a construction management team. He graduated from Smokey Hill High School in Aurora, Colorado.

Jesse loved music, the poetry of language, writing and reading. He described himself as the following: "Nihilist, [against social injustice], I've hitchhiked, hopped trains, rode planes and rode buses back and forth across this country more times than you've been across town. I'm searching for something pure while wandering this lost highway, but I find beauty in her. I'm a man of contradictions, a liar who believes in the truth and a punk who is concerned with appearances. My heroes are my mother, my sister Shawn, William Blake and Frederick Nietshke."

Jesse is now free from the constraints of society's dogmas. His motto was to live fast, love hard, die young and leave a beautiful memory.

He loved quotes such as H.W. Longfellow's: Into each life some rain must fall, some days must be dark and dreary... He loved good lyrics in songs... If you choose to leave me, girl I will understand, But I am going to hold onto you, as long as I can.

His family includes:
His mother: Connie Hoyt of Burden, KS;
His father: Andy Loughrey of Liberty, MO;
His sister: Shawn Overbey and husband, Jimi of Dexter, KS;
His nephews: Jesse Swain of Roanoke, VA; and Trey Swain of Dexter, KS;
His brother-in-law: Dan Swain of Roanoke, VA;
His half-sisters: Amy Loughrey and Abbey Young, both of Winfield;
His aunts and uncles: Rex and Shirley Hoyt; Bryan and Kerry Maggard; Sara Long, and Robert and Rose Loughrey; and
His dear friends: Carrie Brown and Samantha Hunt.

Jesse was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jack and Helen Hoyt; his paternal grandparents, Bob and Janie Loughrey, and his half-sister, Ann Loughrey.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. at the Dexter Christian Church. Interment will follow at Dexter Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 9:00.
