Jerry L. Hopper, 71, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Friday morning, March 24, 2023, at his home.

Born July 1, 1951, in El Dorado, Kansas, he was the son of F. Leland and Ada "B." (Walthall) Hopper. He was raised and received his early education throughout southeastern Kansas. While Jerry was in the fourth grade, his family moved to Winfield. Jerry graduated from Winfield High School in 1969. He then attended Cowley County Community College.

He was united in marriage to Donna Kukuk on July 18, 1970, in Winfield, where the couple made their home. In 1975, he started Hopper Oil Company, a business he owned and operated for over 40 years, until retiring in 2019.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed building guitars, woodworking, collecting cars, collecting motorcycles, and trips to Table Rock Lake and Colorado with family. The most important thing to Jerry was spending time with his grandchildren.

His family includes his wife Donna Hopper of Winfield; his son Matthew Hopper and wife, Echo of Winfield; his daughter Michelle McGinnis and husband, Ash of Winfield; his brother John Hopper of Derby; and his grandchildren, Alicyn, Emercyn, Austin Jerry, Madison, and Allison.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Terry Hopper.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Tannehill Cemetery. A viewing is scheduled at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon from 2 to 6 P.M.

A memorial has been established in Jerry's name for William Newton Hospital. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
