Jerry Eugene DeVore, 58, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, April 22, 2014 at his Home in Winfield.
Born August 11, 1955 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Earl Eugene "Jr." and Rose Marie (Englehardt) DeVore. He was raised and received his education in the Winfield area, graduating from Winfield High School in 1973. After graduation he began working at the Cowley County Jail at the age of 17. He then attended Cowley County Community College.
Jerry was united in marriage to Kathy Lynn Parks on May 26, 1979 at Tisdale United Methodist Church in Tisdale, Kansas. The couple made their home and were lifetime residents of the Winfield community. In 1977 Jerry started his career with the Winfield Police Department. In 1984 he was promoted to Sergeant and in 1994 he was again promoted, this time to Lieutenant. His final promotion came in 2004 when he was named the Chief of Police for the Winfield Police Department, a position that he held until his retirement in December of 2008.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Winfield and the Winfield Masonic Lodge #110. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching football, shooting, and reloading.

His daughter: Emily DeVore and husband, Brian Hopper of Winfield;
His sons: Eric Bruce and wife, Courtney of St. Albert, Canada; Marcus DeVore of Winfield;
His sisters: Diana DeVore and husband, Trip Hogue of Kansas City, MO; Cheryl Parkerson of College Station, TX; and
His grandchildren: Layton, Jasper, Colin, Eva, Lilly and Ayden.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, April 28, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Winfield. A private family inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations be made to Masonic Lodge #110 in Winfield, Rivercross Hospice, or to the First Baptist Church in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
