Jerald D
Cales
August 9, 1939 – March 5, 2024
Jerald D. Cales, 84, of Winfield, Kansas, rode off into the sunset and into the loving arms of our Lord on Tuesday morning, March 5, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 9, 1939, in Wichita, he was the son of Pauline Cochran Cales. He was raised and spent his life in Winfield. His beloved grandparents, James and Dorothy Cochran, were an instrumental part of his upbringing. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jimalene Johnson, on April 19, 1957, in Winfield and they were happily married for 66 years. The couple made their home in Winfield where they raised four children and Jerald was a proud Master Plumber for over 55 years and owned and operated Jerald D. Cales Plumbing and Heating.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield. All four of his children attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Winfield High School.
Jerald loved living in the country, having cattle and farm animals, watching old western movies, listening to country western music, drinking Dr. Pepper (later Diet Dr. Pepper), and being ornery. He had the greatest smile. Most of all he loved his family. His wife, children, and grandchildren were the true joys of his life and his proudest legacy. He was the best Dad and Papa.
His family includes his sweetheart and wife Jimalene Cales of Winfield; his children, Debi Clark of Winfield; Jill Mayfield (Aaron) of McPherson; Eric Cales (Andrea and daughters) of Winfield; and Bethany Dafforn (Todd) of Wichita; his grandchildren, Matthew Wallace, Jaden Mayfield, Landon Clark, Avery Mayfield, Trey Dafforn, Joshua Dafforn, and Emma Dafforn; his siblings, Warren Cales (Dianne); R. LeRoy Cales, Jr. (Tracy); Suzy Atherton (Gale); Barbara Leffew (Clayton); Sharon Flower (Clif); and Glenda Shelton (Larry); and numerous nieces, nephews and other loved ones.
In addition to his parents, Ralph and Pauline Cales, Jerald was preceded in death by grandsons, James Cole Cales and Caleb Mayfield; as well as his beloved Uncle and Aunt, Clifford and Bea Cochran, and special family friend, Karen Snell.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Services are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
The family greatly appreciates all of the nurses and medical professionals that provided excellent care and treatment, especially the care of Dr. Rodrick Heger of Winfield.
Memorials have been established in Jerald's name for St. Jude Children's Hospital and for Wounded Warriors. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
