Jeannine Foster passed away July 7, 2015, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS.
Jeannine was born the daughter of George and Helen Lentz in Newton, Kansas on December 3, 1928. She was educated in the Wichita Schools and graduated from North High School in Wichita, Ks in 1948. She worked as a secretary for an attorney and for Fidelity Investment Company following high school. Jeannine and Edward met while on a tandem bike outing with the First United Methodist Church in Wichita. They were married on November 4, 1949 in Wichita, KS. They lived briefly in Sedgwick and Hesston, Kansas. In 1954 they moved to Winfield, KS where they reside until the present time.
Jeannine graduated from High School in 1948. She attended Cowley County Community College and graduated as Valedictorian in 1964. She continued her education at Southwestern College and graduated as Sum Cum Laude in 1966, Jeannine later received a Master's Degree from Wichita State University in 1974.
Jeannine taught elementary grades in Oxford, KS following her education as a teacher. She continued teaching 5th grade at Irving Elementary School in Winfield, KS. She received a master teacher award while teaching at Irving Elementary in 1990 just prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Foster has been a long time member of Trinity First United Methodist Church, The Winfield Teacher's Association, KNEA, NEA, Delta Kappa Gamma, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Southwestern Dames, Eves Club, Winfield Historical Society, Walnut Valley Quilter's Guild, Wannabees, Civil Air Patrol, and Kiwanis. Jeannine also served as the co-director of the Walnut Valley Contest for many years after retirement.
After retirement, Jeannine, along with Edward enjoyed traveling, meeting with friends and volunteering in the church and community. They enjoyed trips to Europe, Russia, and Thailand as well as visiting most of the continental United States. Jeannine volunteered in many capacities there over the years with different organizations. She also volunteered at the Winfield hospital.
Jeannine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Edward Foster, Daughters: Cynthia Foster of San Antonio, TX and Carol Foster of Fairfield, CA, Grandchildren: Kent Bevan and Diana Bevan of Fairfield, CA, Laura Ruffennach of Fountain, CO; Great-Granddaughters: Jennifer and Emily Ruffennach.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and George Lentz.
Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Winfield, KS. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
