Jeanette Elaine (Plumer) Weinert, 91, of Winfield, Kansas died April 14, 2013 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.
Born October 26, 1921 in Chadwick, IL, she was the daughter of Dudley and Helen (Zugschwerdt) Plumer. Jeanette spent most of her childhood in Naperville, IL, graduating from high school there and attending North Central College for several years.
She worked in Chicago before marrying Glenn Weinert in 1943. Glenn graduated from Evangelical Theological Seminary in 1943 and joined the Kansas Conference of the Evangelical Church. Glenn and Jeanette's first assignment was a two-point charge in Oregon, MO. They started their married life serving a church that provided lots of meat and produce to the pastor and his wife. Things were kept cold by storing them in a cave until her dad was able to purchase a used refrigerator in Illinois and ship it to them on a train. The trip to one of the rural churches was at times eventful, such as the day Jeanette drove the car with Glenn on the rear bumper adding weight to the tires so they could make it up a muddy hill. Their oldest son, Sheldon was born during their years at Oregon.
Their second church assignment was to Trinity Church in Kansas City, MO. Their second son, Lauren was born in Kansas City. After eight years in Kansas City, the family moved to Enid, OK, where the third son, Lyle, was born. They also served churches in Wichita, Liberal, and Phillipsburg, KS. (Due to church denominational mergers during their years in the ministry, The Evangelical Church became The Evangelical United Brethren Church and finally The United Methodist Church.)
During those years, Jeanette served in many capacities at the various churches. She often played the piano, directed children's youth, adult, and bell choirs, served as youth director in two churches, and organized and served numerous large dinners. At one time, she was associate youth director at the conference level.
Jeanette worked for 12 years in the county clerk's office in Phillipsburg.
Glenn and Jeanette retired in Phillipsburg and decided to spend their winter months in a warmer climate. They eventually headed to South Texas, spending more than 20 winter seasons in Harlingen. During their first winter at Sunshine RV Park, Jeanette became director of the park's church choir, a position she held for almost 20 years. She directed the choir, several bell choirs, and a park chorus, and organized and directed numerous programs that centered around the musical talents of the park.
The Weinert's moved to the Friendly Acres retirement community in Newton, Kansas in 2001, and Glenn died in 2005. Since 2009, Jeanette has been a resident at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.
She was preceded in death by Glenn, her husband of 62 years, by her parents, and by a brother, Erwin.
She is survived by:
Her sons: Sheldon Weinert and wife, Karla of Sheldon, IA; Lauren Weinert of Phillipsburg, KS; and Lyle Weinert and wife, Sara of Winfield, KS; and
Her 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
