Obituary

Nellie "Jeanette" Firebaugh, 75, of Cambridge, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, May 2, 2023, at her home.

Born October 18, 1947, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Ralph and Mable (Lively) Calvin.  She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1965.

She was united in marriage to Norman Firebaugh on July 3, 1965 at the First Baptist Church in Winfield.  The couple made their home on a farm near Cambridge.  Jeanette was a partner in running and operating the family farm her entire married life.  She also babysat for several families in the community.  She later became a para for USD 462 Central of Burden Pre-school, where she got permission to paint a big Mickey Mouse on the outside of the pre-school building. She loved Mickey Mouse, and the kids loved that she painted it on their building.  After many years at Central of Burden, she went to work for Head Start in Winfield as a cook.  Most recently she was a special education para for USD 471 in Dexter.

Jeanette was a member of Cambridge Presbyterian Church.  She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, reading, roller skating, playing tennis, spending time with family, and working with children.

Her family includes her husband Norman Firebaugh of Cambridge; her children, Marcy Beckman and husband, Rob of Atwood; Mark Firebaugh and DeeDee Eastman of Winfield; her sister Terri Gray of Haysville; her sisters-in-law Janet Calvin of Winfield; Jeanne Calvin of Udall; her grandchildren, Tyler Beckman of Colby; Kristen Beckman of Atwood; Brady Beckman of Atwood; Kristina Houser and husband, Luke of Oxford; Kyle Firebaugh and wife, Kayleigh of Winfield; Corey Firebaugh and wife, Summer of Emporia; Miles Easley of Winfield; Laken Eastman of Winfield: Brody Eastman of Winfield: and her great grandchildren, Turner and Kash Houser.

In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Calvin and Larry Calvin, a brother-in-law Ronald D. Gray II, and a great granddaughter Brinley Grace Firebaugh.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Miles Funeral Service.  Interment will follow at Burden Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Jeanette's name for St. Jude Children's Hospital.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
