Jean V. Yarbrough's Obituary
Jean V. Yarbrough, 98, of Atlanta, Kansas, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 17, 2017 at the Morning Star Care Home in Neodesha.
Born December 23, 1918 in the family farmhouse east of Atlanta, she was the daughter of William and Pearl (Whiteman) Lee. She was raised and received her education in Cambridge, graduating from Cambridge High School in 1938. As a young woman, Jean worked at the grocery stores and as a waitress.
She was united in marriage to Warren Yarbrough on October 15, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri. The couple made their first home in Cambridge before moving to Atlanta in 1941. Jean made her lifelong career taking care of her family and being a homemaker. Warren preceded her in death on January 28, 1993.
She was a member of Timber Creek Friends Church as well as the Artemis Club and the Cook's Day Off Club. She served as secretary and treasurer for the church and spent 75 years on the Election Board. She was a great cook, making the best pancakes and noodles. She loved to be around people and socialize.
Her family includes:
Her daughters: Jackie DeCoudres and husband, Dean of Winfield; Cindy Baker and husband, Jay of Clinton, MO; Robin Chilcott and husband, Bret of Neodesha;
Her daughter-in-law: Beverly Yarbrough of Atlanta;
Her grandchildren: Carissa, Craig, Heath, Mark, Greg, Gina, Brent, Trent, Sarah, Luke, Ryan, and Morgan; and
Her numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a son, Larry Yarbrough and a brother, Richard Lee.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Cambridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 4 to 8.
A memorial has been established in Jean's name for Timber Creek Friends Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
