Jean Spencer, 89, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, August 26, 2015 at her home in Winfield.

Born July 22, 1926 in Winfield, Kansas she was the daughter of James Albert and Mary Lois (Strickland) Tuggle. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1945.

Jean was united in marriage to Billy M. Spencer on June 30, 1945 in Winfield where the couple made their home. She worked as a waitress and cook in several area restaurants, including, H&L Café, Merle's Café, and Crow's Daylight Donuts.
Mr. Spencer preceded her in death on December 24, 2010.

She was a member of the Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in Winfield. In her younger days she enjoyed painting, camping and playing croquet. More recently she spent her time watching old movies and soap operas. She especially loved spending time with her family.

Her son: Terry Spencer and wife, Melody of Little Elm, TX;
Her daughter: Sharon Moore Vanderpool and husband, Bob of Arkansas City, KS;
Her daughter-in-law: Linda Spencer of Winfield, KS;
Her 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchild; and her beloved cat: Sammy.

In addition to her parents and husband Jean was preceded in death by 8 siblings, her son, Tracy Spencer, and her son-in-law, Wesley Moore.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 31, 2015, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon, August 30, 2015 from 2 to 6. The family will greet visitors from 2 to 4 that afternoon.

Memorials have been established in Jean's name for the Cowley County Humane Society and for Gentiva Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
