AUDREY JEAN GREEN, 91, of Winfield, passed away October 20, 2012 at William Newton Hospital.
Jean was born May 3, 1921 in Winfield to Forrest M. and Ethel R. (Jordan) Roberts. Her childhood years were spent on the family ranch on Silver Creek and she completed eight grades at Prairie Ridge School. Jean graduated from Winfield High School in 1939 and attended St. Mary's School of Nursing and Arkansas City Junior College. The family attended both Grace Methodist and Tisdale Methodist Churches during her growing up years.
Jean married Earl D. Green on November 8, 1974, in Hutchinson. Earl preceded her in death on February 11, 2004.
Mrs. Green joined the war effort during World War II when she worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita. She held a variety of jobs including working as a ward clerk at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for a number of years. After their retirement, she and her husband were employed as custodians at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield where they were active members. She helped with dinners and receptions at her church and volunteered with the Red Cross Bloodmobile for over twenty years. Family had first place in Jean's life; she was devoted to her loved ones. She loved gardening, fishing, cooking, and making crafts. She was an animal lover and derived much pleasure from her pets through the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sisters, Ruth Scott and Montra Bergdall.
Survivors include:
Her brother and sister-in-law: Don and Erma Roberts of Winfield;
Her brother-in-law: Warren Scott of Winfield; and
A number of nieces and nephews and their families.
Funeral Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. Viewing and greeting with the family will take place at the church prior to the service. Graveside services at Highland Cemetery will be private. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been established in Jean's name for First United Methodist Church and to the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
