Obituary

J.B. MARSHALL, 80, of Atlanta, Kansas, passed away Monday night, December 24, 2012 at his home.

Born March 29, 1932 in Minneola, Kansas, he was the son of Vernon and Audrey (McMann) Marshall. He attended grade school in Minneola, and attended and graduated high school in Atlanta.

J.B. entered the United States Air Force in 1952. He served in Virginia, Florida and Alaska before being honorably discharged on February 15, 1956.

While in the service, J.B. met Cathryn Bridwell in Washington D.C. They were married on October 3, 1953 in Edwardsville, Illinois. The couple made their first home in Tampa, Florida. In 1956, they moved to Atlanta, Kansas, where he worked on the Wakefield Ranch. They moved to Stillwater in 1960 and lived there for a short time before returning to Atlanta. J.B. worked at the Atlanta Co-op and at the Citizens State Bank of Atlanta. He then made his career as a Rancher. His wife, Cathy preceded him in death on September 29, 2005.

J.B. was a member of the Atlanta Christian Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed riding pastures horseback, reading, fishing, shooting trap with the family, and quail hunting. He served as a volunteer firefighter for the Atlanta Fire Department and enjoyed checking up on the department even after he wasn't able to volunteer. He loved horses and raising cattle.

His family includes:
His son: Gary Dean Marshall and wife, Mickie of Katy, TX;
His daughters: Sherri Lynn Marshall-Obermueller and husband, Roger of Derby; and Karen Elizabeth Marshall-Hughes and husband, Mark of Burden;
His companion: Diane Holt of Atlanta;
His sister: Maxine Keely of Wichita;
His sister-in-law: Darlene Marshall of Minneola;
His grandchildren: Sara Griffin, Jon Marshall, Anne Obermueller, Katie Washburn, Rebecca Triplett, Erik Obermueller, Wade Hughes and Wyatt Hughes; and
His 4 great granddaughters and 4 great grandsons.

In addition to his parents and wife, J.B. was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Ray Marshall.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at the Atlanta Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

Memorials have been established in J.B.'s name for RiverCross Hospice and for the Leukemia Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
