Janis Kay Evans, 62, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Monday morning, November 14, 2011 surrounded by family at her home.
Born August 13, 1949, in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Victor and Leona Elizabeth (Sallee) Gurnee. She was raised and received her education in Winfield.
Janis was united in marriage to Walter Evans on April 10, 1971 at the First Church of God in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Winfield where Janis was a devoted house wife and mother. In 1976 the family moved to Wellington for Walter's work and later returned to the Winfield community in 1988.
She was a member of Blessing Heights Church of God in Arkansas City. She enjoyed camping, yard work, and was an avid NASCAR fan. Her favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt Jr. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Her daughters: Kris Sultz and husband, Jeremy of Winfield; Amy Bailey and husband, Jeff of Winfield; Vicki Bailey and husband, Jason of Winfield;
Her 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; and
Her canine children: Sophie and B.J.
Janis was preceded in death by her mother Leona Gurnee, and her brother Clifford Gurnee.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
Memorials have been established in Janis' name for William Newton Hospital Foundation and for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
