Janice Lynn (Shay) Williams passed away at her home in Ponca City, Oklahoma on Thursday, May 28th, 2009, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Janice was born in Winfield, Kansas on October 2, 1947, to Clyde W. Shay and Wilda L. (West) Shay, both of whom now survive her. She grew up in Winfield, attending Bryant Elementary School and Winfield High School. After leaving Winfield, she pursued a career in accounting. She lived in Wichita, Denver, Arkansas City, and Topeka. She has resided in Ponca City, Oklahoma since 1994, and has worked for the Lindsey Manufacturing Company there since 1994.
Janice is survived by her parents, Clyde and Wilda Shay, of Winfield; her daughters Stephanie Hider, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Lori Thomas, of Ponca City, Oklahoma; her grandchildren Shay Hider and Greyson Thomas; her brother and sister-in-law Randy and Vicky Shay, of Winfield; her sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Christian Downum, of Flagstaff, Arizona; her nieces and nephews Bryan and Eva Shay, Jenifer Shay, and Ellen and Brendan Downum, of Flagstaff; her great-niece; and her uncle Donald Mayginnes, of Winfield.
Janice was preceded in death by an infant brother, Dennis Shay, and her grandparents, Clyde C. and Winifred Shay and Frank and Anna West, of Winfield.
Janice was admired for her keen intelligence, her wit, her creativity, her practicality and her industriousness. She was beloved for her generous nature, her kind heart, her gentle sense of humor, her countless handmade gifts, her warm and artful homemaking, her love of Mickey Mouse, and her Christmas sugar cookies. She made every Christmas joyful. She was a loving daughter, a devoted mother, a wonderful sister, a valued employee and a great friend.
We miss her already and will forever.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 A.M., June 2, 2009, at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday evening.
As a soft-hearted lover of animals, especially cats, Janice requested that a memorial be established in her name for the Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
