Obituary

JANET LEE WHEELER, 76, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 25, 2015 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Born January 28, 1939 in Falls City, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Edward C. and Arline F. (Bryan) Bruhn. She was raised and educated in Nebraska and in Wichita, Kansas, graduating from Wichita East High School in 1956.

Jan was united in marriage to LeRoy Wheeler on June 16, 1957 in Wichita, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Wichita and later in Wellington, Kansas for 10 years. In 1972 the couple moved to Winfield where they built and operated Wheelers IGA. Jan was the bookkeeper and also cake decorator.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. She was also involved in the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary, DWF, and volunteered at the Dexter Elementary School. She had belonged to the Soroptomist Club, the Epsilon Signa Alpha and the Mother's Study Club and served as a 4-H and Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed reading, doing crafts and especially loved spending time with her family.

Her daughters: Sharon McFarland and husband, Scott; and Susan Nettrouer and husband, Steve, all of Winfield;
Her brothers: Kenny Bruhn and wife Norma of Nevada, MO; and Clarke Bruhn and wife Karen of Valley Center, KS;
Her grandsons: Chad McFarland and wife, Holly of Olathe, Kansas; Andy McFarland and wife, Kim of Manhattan, Kansas; Adam Nettrouer of San Angelo, TX; Alex Nettrouer of Winfield; Roger Nettrouer of Wellington, KS; and Ray Nettrouer of Gardner, KS;
Her great grandsons: Jason, Anthony, Chase, Josh, Derek and Lucas McFarland;
Her great-granddaughter: Cailin Nettrouer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 2:30 P.M. at First United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M.

Memorials have been established in Jan's name for the Patriot Guard and for First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
