JANET L. MENKE, 67, of Winfield, passed away Tuesday evening, September 22, 2009 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Born September 6, 1942 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Ralph R. and Pearl Elvina (Rundle) Duncan. She was raised and educated in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1960. In 1964, Janet moved to Phoenix, Arizona.

She was united in marriage to George Francis Menke on April 10, 1965 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made their home in Phoenix and in 1971 moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. They made their home in Winfield in 1978.

Janet was a Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer of Cornerbank in Winfield and retired in 2004. She served on the Winfield Zoning Appeals Board for a number of years as well as she was involved in many civic activities thru her ESA sorority affiliation.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield. She loved gardening, scrap booking and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Her son: Shawn A. Menke and wife, Jennifer of Florissant, MO;
Her 5 grandchildren: Megan Burdette of Stillwater, OK; Morgan Burdette of El Dorado, KS; Mattie Burdette of Grenola, KS; Tyler Menke and Emma Menke of Florissant, MO;
Her sister: Eileen Cummings and husband, Joe of Winfield;
A number of nieces and nephews and other close relatives and friends; and
Her beloved dog: Miss Daisy.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Larry R. Duncan.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday morning, September 28, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6 P.M.

A Memorial has been established in Mrs. Menke's name for the Kansas Cancer Center and for Island Park. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
