Obituary

Janet Hariett McLaughlin, 80, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday night, September 3, 2019 at Wesley Medical Center.

Born May 8, 1939 in Dodge City, Kansas, she was the daughter of Harvey and Hazel Skidmore. Janet worked at Henry's Candies and was a CNA at Grouse Valley Manor in Dexter and at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan. She owned several restaurants, including the 160 Café in Burden. Janet was well known for the amazing food she and her family prepared. She cooked from the heart and it showed in every dish she prepared. Customers came from miles away for her chicken fried steak and pie. Janet had many friends and would help anyone in need. She and her husband opened the restaurant doors on holidays to feed those who had no where to go. In addition to cooking, Janet enjoyed gardening and decorating.

Janet married Allen Chadwell in San Bernardino, California. The couple had four children. Mr. Chadwell preceded her in death. She married Patrick Henry, Jr. in 1969 in Dexter, Kansas. She and Patrick had two children and later divorced. She was united in marriage to William Eugene McLaughlin in Arkansas City in 1978.

Her family includes her children, Gary Allen Chadwell of Winfield; Kathy Chadwell Fisher and husband, Jef of Jensen Beach, FL; Candise Henry of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Leora Henry Dye of Twin Peaks, CA; her step-children, Pat "Bub" Henry of Edmond, OK; Kathleen Henry Brown of Callisburg, TX; Robert Randall and wife, Andy of Dexter; Dale Randall and wife, Donna of Dexter; Colbert McLaughlin and wife, Debra of Winfield; Justin McLaughlin of Arkansas City; her siblings, Gary Skidmore and wife, Donna of Montezuma; Jackie Boyd and husband, Dick of Montezuma; Doris Price of Hutchinson; and 26 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents Janet was preceded in death by her siblings, LeRoy Sonny Skidmore, Jane Hazel Swaffer, and Donna Unruh her children, Jerry Lee Chadwell, Gustava Chadwell, her step-son Shawn Henry, and a grandson Matthew McLaughlin.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M.
