Obituary

Janet Kay Gottschalck Schotte, 58, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, Kansas.

Born August 22, 1961 in Boulder, Colorado, she was the daughter of Marvin and Arnola "June" (Shroeder) Grueber. She was raised and received her education in the Loveland area where she graduated high school in 1979. She then moved to Winfield, Kansas, where she received and associate degree in Parish Work from St. John's College in 1 981.

Janet was united in marriage to Charlie Gottschalck in 1982 in Denver, Colorado. The couple made their first home in the Denver area before moving to Phoenix, Arizona in the late 1980's. While in Phoenix, Janet worked for America West Airline until 1991 when the family moved to Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She then went to work for Roaring Fork School District as a school finance supervisor and remained there until Charlie's passing in 2011.

In August of 2018, Janet moved to Winfield, Kansas and was united in marriage to Mark Schotte on March 9, 2019. The couple made their home in Winfield and Janet worked as the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Cowley County Community College.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield. She enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, going for drives, and being with people. She also enjoyed helping with the Trinity Lutheran Scholarship fund and helping those in need.

Her family includes her husband Mark of Winfield; her children, Chris Gottschalck of Golden, CO; Stephanie Gottschalck of Rifle, CO; Toni Gottschalck of Kansas City, MO; Erik Schotte and wife, Audrey of Valley Center; Amanda Neff and husband, Brandon of Emporia; her sister Patti Pringle and husband, Tom of Lafayette, CO; her brother Gary Grueber and wife, Laura of Windsor, CO; and her grandchildren, Caden Scarlett, Kaylee Garcia, Saydee Garcia, Kalvin Schotte, Tyson Schotte, Cameron Schotte, Natalie Neff, and Annette Neff.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Charlie.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Service.

A memorial has been established in Janet's name for the Trinity Lutheran School Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
