Obituary

Jane Ellen Frazier, 63, passed away July 12, 2011, at New York University Medical Center, in New York City, New York, after an 18-month battle with lymphoma.

Jane was born to Stephen Keith and Doris Emily (Bernstorf) Frazier on July 20, 1947, in Norman, Oklahoma. Jane resided in several states throughout her childhood, as her father traveled as a geologist with the California Oil Company. In 1961, however, the family settled on the Bernstorf-Graham farm north of Winfield, Kansas. Active in musical and equestrian events throughout her teen years, Jane graduated from Winfield High School in 1965. She continued her education at the University of Kansas, where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1969. A lifelong student of music, she worked as a vocal coach/accompanist and later went on to receive a Master's Degree in Fine Arts, as well as a Master's Degree in Voice.

Jane had resided in New York City for the past 24 years. There she worked as a copy editor and continued her musical interests with the Riverside Choral Society. A perennial advocate of the arts, Jane particularly enjoyed all of the cultural interests the city had to offer.

Jane's survivors include two brothers, Stephen Kendal Frazier of Centennial, Colorado, and John Eric Frazier of Altamont, Kansas; two nieces, Christa Nicole Frazier of Webb City, Missouri, and Kendra Lea Frazier of Columbia, Missouri; two nephews, Jeremy Lee Frazier of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Stephen Kody Frazier of Winfield; three great-nephews, Braden Andrew Frazier, Jace Warren Frazier, and Colin Graham Frazier, all of Owasso, Oklahoma; an aunt, Ruth Jean Andersen of Anthony, Kansas; and two cousins, David William Andersen of Kingman, Kansas, and Donald Stephen Andersen of Wichita, Kansas.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Warren Farley Frazier and Graham Phillip Frazier; and two nieces, Angela Lynn Frazier and Erica Michelle Frazier.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, at Miles Funeral Service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Memorials are suggested to the University of Kansas for its Endowment Association for the Phyllis Brill Voice and Opera Scholarship or to the USD 465 Foundation for the Bernstorf-Frazier Memorial Fund to support the music department at Winfield High School.
