Obituary

JAMES R. SPRING, 57, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, August 18, 2013 at his home.

Born on February 23, 1956 in Horton, Kansas, he was the son of Clifford Roy and Donna Ruth (Small) Spring. He was raised and received his education in Sabetha, Kansas and graduated from Sabetha High School in 1974. James graduated from Emporia State University and later Washburn Law School in Topeka. Following law school he moved to Cowley County. He worked as the Deputy County Attorney for several years and served one term as County Attorney. He also worked part time as a judge in Clearwater and Udall, Kansas.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Arkansas City where he served on the Bell Choir. Jim enjoyed riding his motorcycle, going to auctions and being a collector, and volunteering at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival. He was always fascinated with Mardi Gras and New Orleans.

His family includes:
His brother: David Spring and wife Rita Schild of Roseville, MN;
His sister: Carolyn Spring of Nevada;
His nieces: Chelsea, Caitlin and Chloe Spring and
His extended family: The Cope family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, August 23, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield.

Memorials have been established in Jim's name for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Cowley County Humane Society, the First United Methodist Church, or the charity of the donor's choice. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
