James Patrick "Pat" Newman, 74, of Newkirk, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday morning, May 10, 2018 at his home.
Born July 23, 1943 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Cyrus and Helen (Cameron) Newman. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. After school, Pat served in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, he began working for Gott Manufacturing in Winfield. Pat moved to Oxford and continued working for Gott until beginning his career with Santa Fe Railroad. He continued with the railroad for several years, retiring in 2009. After retiring, he made his home in Newkirk, Oklahoma.
He enjoyed classic cars, raising and riding horses, raising coon hounds and going coon hunting. He was avid sports fan, playing both football and basketball in high school.
His family includes: his daughter, Jamie Jo Newman; brothers, Mike Newman and wife, Katherine and Jerry Newman and Dyane; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by his sister, Jo Ann Heiserman and a sister-in-law, Pam Newman.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Arkansas City First Assembly of God. Interment will follow at Tannehill Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Pat's name for Arkansas City First Assembly of God Building Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
