Mort, Jr.
August 16, 1977 – January 18, 2021
James Darrell Mort, Jr., 43, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Monday evening, January 18, 2021 at his home.
Born August 16, 1977 in Winfield, he was the son of James Darrell and Pamela S. (Leake) Mort. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1996. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 316. Following high school, he went to work as a caregiver for Martin Luther Homes.
Darrell married Sherry Jarboe on February 14, 2004. To this union, a son was born. The couple later divorced. Darrell enjoyed working as an auto mechanic. He worked for several area businesses including, O'Reilly's, Klein's Motor, and Jiffy Lube. He also worked on several of his friends' cars. He also enjoyed playing softball, hunting, fishing, and working on old trucks.
His family includes his parents James D. and Pamela S. Mort, of Winfield; his sister Heather Anderson, of Winfield; his son Jesse James Mort, of El Dorado; his daughter Hannah Byrd, of Arkansas City; his stepchildren: Meagan, Andrew, and Kayla Jarboe; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Darrell was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Darrell's name for the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
