James Newton Mooney, 88, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, October 23, 2018.
Born March 23, 1930 in Arkansas, to Howard Otis and Ruth Elizabeth (McConaghie) Mooney. He married Reba Fisher and the couple had five children. The couple later divorced. He married his soul mate, Jean Nicholas, on August 10, 1996. He then became a father to her children, whom he loved as his own. He spent his life as a steward of God. Due to his fondness for working on houses, he likened his calling to rehabilitate houses as the Lord rehabilitates men. He was a wonderful example to all who were lucky enough to know him. He never complained during his lengthy illness and always expressed his gratitude for the smallest kindness. He always said that he could never write his feelings for Jean as she often wrote hers to him. But he expressed it in his loving words, tender touch, smiling eyes, humor and laughter. His primary employment was with Boeing where he worked as a loftsman. His real work was in doing for others. He shed this mortal veil on October 23, 2018 in Haysville, Kansas. James loved life, animals, flowers and gardening. He designed and constructed his bride's wedding gown as well as their going away shirts.
His family includes his wife, Jean Mooney of Winfield; his children Donna Rose Heath and Jimmy Duane Mooney; his step-children Kara Suzanne Larimore and Catherine Jolana Spencer-Helms; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by an infant son, two daughters, Carla Gayle, Retta Lee, and a step-son William Jeffrey Spencer.
Private burial has taken place at the Dewey Cemetery in Dewey, Oklahoma. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
