James R. Krug, 83, of Denton, Texas, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
Born July 31, 1939 in Grand Junction, Colorado, he was the son of Joseph Adam and Lavina Lillian (McCaw) Krug. He was raised and received his education in Atlanta, graduating from Atlanta High School. He then attended Pensacola Junior College and the University of Maryland.
JR enlisted in the United States Marine Corp/Air Force and proudly served his country for 21 years. He served a tour in Vietnam and was presented the "Air Medal" among other awards. He flew 115 combat missions. He retired from the Air Force as a Maintenance Superintendent in Big Spring, Texas, with the rank of Master Sergeant in 1977. He was also assigned to Southwest Airlines Engineering when employed by LearJet Honeywell.
JR was united in marriage to Misako Tanaka on July 12, 1959 in Yokohama, Japan. The couple was married for 41 years before she passed away on September 23, 2000. On May 21, 2001, he married Chun Yu Martas in Ft. Worth, Texas.
His family includes his wife Melanie Krug of Denton, TX; his sons, Joe Krug of Arkansas City; Jamie Krug and wife, Sheila of Winfield; Justin Krug and wife, Chantal of Seattle, WA; his brothers, Merle Krug and wife, Geneva of Winfield; Norman Krug of San Antionio, FL and Carroll "Bunny" Krug and wife, Darlene of Cambridge.
In addition to his parents and first wife, JR was preceded in death by a son Jon Krug, his sister Beverly Schnurr and by two brothers, Harold and Victor Krug.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment and Military Committal Honors will follow at Atlanta Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in JR's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
