James Lee King, 80, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 29, 2012 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Born March 28, 1932 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Vester and Thelma (Hasty) King. He was raised and received his education in Winfield graduating from Winfield High School in 1951. After school he began working at Boeing in Wichita. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. In 1954 he was honorably discharged and returned home to Winfield.
James was united in marriage to Illean G. McFarland on June 24, 1955 at the First Christian Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield, and James continued to work for Boeing. In 1969 he went to work for the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. He remained there for over 25 years until retiring in 1994 as a Fire Safety Officer. After retiring, he and Illean enjoyed traveling, and going on cruises.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Oxford Coin Club. He enjoyed coin collecting, camping, fishing, golf, bowling and genealogy. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

His daughter: Debra Carrasco and husband, Octavio of Winfield;
His brothers: Jack J. King and wife, Marsha of Independence; Bobby King and wife, Dixie of Mulvane;
His sister-in-law: Karen L. King of Wichita;
His 9 grandchildren, 23 ¾ great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Raymond E. and William T. King.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, July 31, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.
Memorials have been established in Mr. King's name for the Alzheimer's Association and for the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
