Obituary

JAMES A. "JIM" HODGSON, 87, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, August 26, 2013 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

Born on April 9, 1926 in Driftwood, Oklahoma, he was the son of O.C. "Boss" and Ida B. (Johnson) Hodgson. He was raised and received his education in Driftwood and graduated from Driftwood High School in 1944.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Hodgson proudly served his country in the United States Army. Jim was stationed in the Philippines and was part of what he referred to as the cleanup of the war. He was honorably discharged on April 24, 1947.

He was united in marriage to Mabel Flowers on March 18, 1945 in Cherokee, Oklahoma. The couple moved to a farm north of Wilmot, Kansas in 1949. In the 1950's Jim and Mabel moved to a farm owned by his uncle, Will Hodgson at the intersection of US 77 and K15. In the summer of 1967 they moved to a farm south of Rock where they farmed and ran livestock until their retirement in 1991. They then moved to Winfield.

He was a member of the Rock Methodist Church and had served as a trustee. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post #10 and the Winfield Elks Lodge. He had served on several boards including the Akron School Board, Udall School Board, Middle Walnut Watershed, Cowley County Fair Board and the Cowley County Livestock Association. His hobbies included collecting John Deere memorabilia and Hesston National Finals belt buckles.

His family includes:
His wife: Mabel of Winfield, KS;
His son: Joe Hodgson and Agi Crawford of Albuquerque, NM;
His daughter: Teresa Bradbury and husband Russell of Winfield, KS;
His grandchildren: Clint Bradbury and wife Katie, Candace Evers and husband Joshua and Louie Golden; and
His nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dennis; an infant brother, his brothers; Orie, Carl and Gilbert; and his sisters; Lena Johnson and Pauline McNett.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the Rock Methodist Church. Military committal honors will follow at the Stalter Cemetery, east of Rock. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 28, 2013 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M., that evening.

A memorial has been established in Jim's name for the Kansas Veterans Home. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
