Obituary

James G. "Jim" Goodwin, 74, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, February 6, 2009 at William Newton Hospital.

Born September 24, 1934 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Oliver and Sadie (Hensley) Goodwin. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1952.

Jim was united in marriage to Greta Hall on November 21, 1954, in Winfield. The couple made their home and raised their family in the Winfield area. After high school, Jim worked for the State of Kansas Highway Department until going to work for Boeing Aircraft. He worked as a programmer at Boeing for 38 years until retiring in 1995. He then began delivering flowers for Donna's Designs, which he has done for the past 12 years.

Jim was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church, and served on the board for Habitat For Humanity. He was an avid bowler, and was a member of the Tuesday night men's bowling league for over 20 years. He had a great passion for the game of baseball. In addition to playing baseball as a youth and throughout high school, he coached his children and many other Winfield youth, helping to teach them the game that he loved so much.

His family includes:
His wife: Greta of the home;
His sons: Craig Goodwin and wife, Vicki of Roseville, CA; Mark Goodwin and wife, Mary of Winfield; and Brian Goodwin and wife, Roberta of Wichita;
His daughter: Sheri Helm and husband, Jeff of Derby;
His sisters: Joyce Hoyt of Phoenix, AZ; and April Finuf and husband, Randy of Winfield;
His 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Larry and sister, Rosalie.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 from 5 to 9 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 6 P.M..

Memorials have been established in Jim's name for Grace United Methodist Church and the Cancer Center of Kansas in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
