James Garn "Jim" Swinney, 67, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 at his brother's home in Topeka, Kansas.
Born April 26, 1948 in Arkansas City, Kansas, he was the son of James Oliver and Wilma Junele (Bartholomew) Swinney. He was raised and received his education in Cedar Vale, Kansas. After school he worked for Campbell Soup Co. in Arkansas and later returned to Winfield, and went to work for the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center.
Jim attended trade school and trained as a Gunsmith and later went to Cowley County Community College where he became a machinist. He worked most of his adult life as a machinist in south central Kansas. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking care of stray animals, especially cats and raccoons.
His family includes:
His brother: Michael Swinney and wife, Kim of Topeka;
His niece: Jessica Lynn Swinney of Chilliwack, Canada; and
His great nephews: Gabriel and Adrian both of Chilliwack, Canada.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Swinney.
Services will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 2:00 P.M., at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas. Burial will follow at Cedar Vale Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Jim's name for the Cowley County Humane Society in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
